Orlagh's Fizzy Green and Silver Lemonade

Orlagh's Fizzy Green and Silver Lemonade

Once upon a time there was a very special little girl called Orlagh Rose, who was so special that whenever she clasped her hands together, in the special way only she could do, she always made you smile and think that she was passing on to you some special wishes and special dreams.

Orlagh Rose also had a very special little cow, who was so special because although he had no tail, he had the bestest little cow dance out of all the little cows and he loved Orlagh Rose very very much; almost as much as her Mummy and her Daddy, who thought that she was the best little baby in the whole world.

One very hot day when the sun was beaming down on Orlagh Rose and the little cow as they played in the garden, Orlagh Rose all of a sudden felt really really thirsty.

She called out her great big ‘Hello!’ to let Mummy know and guess what happened? Just at that exact moment Orlagh Rose heard some lovely music playing, just outside the garden. It sounded like music she had never quite heard before, it was gentle and soft as if made up of pipes of pure silver and sweet butterfly whistling. As Orlagh Rose listened to the beautiful music, Mummy suddenly came into the garden and said,

‘Well, Orlagh Rose, I hope you are thirsty because there is a very special drink that I am going to get for you!’

Orlagh Rose clasped her little hands together; she thought that a very special drink sounded like a great idea.

‘Well Orlagh Rose’, said Mummy,

‘Have you ever heard of fizzy green and silver lemonade?’

Orlagh Rose and the little cow were amazed! Fizzy green and silver lemonade? Orlagh Rose thought that it sounded delicious and maybe a little bit magic and couldn’t wait to try it!

‘Well’, said Mummy, ‘I wonder if you noticed some lovely music playing outside the garden just now?’

Orlagh Rose clasped her little hands together; of course she had heard the music!

‘Well’, said Mummy,

‘That is the music of the lemonade man’.

‘The lemonade man?’ thought Orlagh Rose.

She had never heard of the lemonade man before, surely there wasn’t a man made of lemonade somewhere? She stared at the little cow, who must have been thinking the same thing, as his little ears had been pushed back and his two little black eyes were sparkling!

‘Now Orlagh Rose’, said Mummy, just at that exact moment,

‘I hope that you are not thinking that the lemonade man is a man made of lemonade! The lemonade man is a man that sells lemonade from the little lemonade van that you can hear the music coming from!’

Orlagh Rose smiled at Mummy,

‘Aaaaahhhh’, she thought, that seemed to make more sense!

So the lemonade man was a little bit like the ice cream man; who came calling to the front of all the houses, with his cheery tune van to let all the children know that it was ice cream time! Orlagh Rose always thought the ice cream from the ice cream van tasted better than any of the other ice creams, but she was never sure why!

‘Anyway,’ said Mummy, lifting up Orlagh Rise and the little cow, ‘will we go and see the lemonade man to see if he can give us some of his very special fizzy green and silver lemonade!’

Orlagh Rose clasped her little hands together, she couldn’t wait to try fizzy green and silver lemonade! As Mummy carried Orlagh Rose across the garden, Orlagh Rose and the little cow wondered what type of lemonade would be fizzy green and silver lemonade?

Orlagh Rose imagined all the fizzy bubbles in green and silver were made of green petals (the kind you got on birthday cakes) and silver sparkles; or maybe the lemonade was made of green juicy apples and special magic drops of rain, all mixed up with a little bit of magic to make up the bubbles!

Or, maybe wondered Orlagh Rose the lemonade would be made of her favourite, delicious green pear, maybe mixed with some of the special fairy silver sugar; that she knew was used to make lemon sugar baked cookies!

The little cow was very excited as Orlagh Rose imagined all the different types of lemonade that could be fizzy green and silver lemonade.

The little cow really hoped that the lemonade would be pear lemonade too! He loved yummy pear, almost as much as Orlagh Rose! Except he was hoping a little too that maybe there could be some green grapes in the lemonade; the little cow loved green grapes! Quite often Mummy found green grapes in Orlagh Rose’s cot and was never quite sure how they had got there! The little cow was always trying to hide green grapes in secret hiding places all over the house; just in case he got a little bit hungry!

As Orlagh Rose and the little cow walked outside with Mummy, Orlagh Rose followed the sound of the lovely music and was able to catch her first glimpse of the lemonade man and guess what she seen!

Orlagh Rose’s mouth dropped open as she looked at the little orange and red van that had only three wheels and instead of a roof, it had a giant canopy, one that looked like it should have been on a summer café, all in stripes of pink and white and purple; like special birthday ice cream.

The little van had a little circle window that had curtains made of silver and blue in patchwork; just like the lovely Orlagh Rose cushion in her room at home. And, most surprisingly of all inside the little silver and blue window; as Orlagh Rose got closer and closer, she was able to see the lemonade man!

She was very surprised to see the lemonade man who was very very tall. He wore a long purple hat with a black rose and ribbon tied on to the top! The lemonade man was wearing a yellow suit that looked shiny and bright, just like the sun and his tie was red and made entirely of bubbles that seemed to bounce all the way up to the top of the window and back down again! Orlagh Rose’s mouth dropped open as they got really close to the lemonade man; she noticed that he had really long pink nails.

As he smiled at Mummy and Orlagh Rose, Orlagh Rose thought that the lemonade man had a fantastic face. His smile seemed to run from ear to ear; he had big red pointy eyebrows and big green bright eyes!

‘Hello!’ The lemonade man said to Orlagh Rose and the little cow.

‘I am sure that such a lovely little girl like you would like to try some of my very special lemonade!’ Orlagh Rose clasped her little hands together as she stared at the lemonade man, delighted!

The lemonade man said,

‘Well, gorgeous little girl, we have all types of lemonade here, you could try sugary pea lemonade, or pink glittering rose lemonade. We have strawberry sherbet lemonade, chocolate biscuit lemonade, or maybe you would like purple and blue chewing gum lemonade?’

Orlagh Rose and the little cow were amazed!

‘Wow!’ said Orlagh Rose, imagine she could try all of these special lemonades! Orlagh Rose was very tempted to try the pink glittering rose lemonade, as she thought this sounded delicious, but as she looked at Mummy and thought again of just how thirsty she was; she decided she wanted to try the fizzy green and silver lemonade!

Mummy ordered the fizzy green and silver lemonade for them all and as they thanked the lemonade man, guess what happened? In all the excitement, the little cow, who must have been very thirsty ended up putting his whole head into one of the glasses of lemonade! When Mummy fished him out again after laughing the little cow had a silver sparkling green nose!

Orlagh Rose thought that he looked very, very funny but as she looked closer at him, she noticed that he was licking his lips.

‘Aaahhhhhh’, she thought, ‘the fizzy green and silver lemonade must be good then!’

As Orlagh Rose took her first sip, she could hardly believe it as all the fizzy bubbles all jumped around in her mouth, all full of excitement, making her tummy feel all dizzy. Then…she tasted yummy pear, her favourite and then, she was sure she tasted some juicy kiwi and some sweet pea, and if she was not mistaken, maybe a little bit of green chilli!

‘Wow’, thought Orlagh Rose as her tongue tingled with all the different flavours of the lemonade and as she swallowed guess what happened? Her throat all filled up with silver sparkles and as the lovely lemonade made its way down to her tummy, Orlagh Rose felt as if she was having a little sprinkling of magic fairy silver dust fill her up all inside, like a lovely warm, safe excitement!

As Orlagh Rose finished drinking her lovely fizzy green and silver lemonade, she thought it was the best lemonade she had ever tasted!

But, as she wondered on her way back to the garden, what made the special fizzy green and silver lemonade, she took a look back at the lemonade man and both Orlagh Rose and the little cow noticed at the same time; that as the lemonade van drove away, it left a little trail of silver magic dust behind!
